Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay eye success in Ludwig Cann 10K
Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay head into the Ludwig Cann 10K tomorrow looking to maintain their dominance in the Swan’s Legends Series.
Lindsay and Trott have won the first two legs of the four-part series. Victory for the duo would make it harder for the chasing pack to overtake them, ahead of the Sir Stanley Burgess 5K, the last race of the series on May 5.
Trott, 34, is dreading the difficult terrain he has to deal with in the Ludwig Cann 10K, which starts and ends at Astwood Park. Last year, he was second to eventual series winner Dage Minors, who has not entered any of the races so far.
“It’s definitely one of the tougher courses in the series, it’s pretty much uphill for the first half,’’ Trott said.
“I would have to really have a bad last race if I was to lose on the last one. If I win this, it will almost be locked in at that point.”
Trott will be the looking over his shoulder for the likes of Chayce Smith, Domico Watson and Adam Prunty, who have given him a strong challenge in previous races.
“Chayce always comes out hard and gives a good test,’’ Trott told The Royal Gazette. “I’ll be always looking out for him to give me a good push.”
Trott has his eyes on the big one, the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby, where he is targeting a maiden title.
“The main goal for me is the May 24, the big race coming up,’’ he said. “I've been doing a lot of longer runs and longer speedwork sessions, focused on getting ready for the big half-marathon.
“All these little races are part of the training. I use them as a way of gauging where my fitness is along the way.”
The 35-year-old Lindsay has carried her brilliant form from last year, which saw her win all four races in the series.
