Jason Williams has been crowned Bermuda’s Backyard Ultra champion after pushing himself to the limit during the team world championships.

Williams lasted for nearly 28 hours in St David’s, running a 4.167-mile loop every hour on the hour from 9am on Saturday morning and eventually finishing at 12.49pm on Sunday afternoon after running 116.67 miles

The endurance runner faced stiff competition from 14 other Bermuda squad members and was involved in a fierce battle with Florin Teleman to be crowned last man standing, with both athletes completing 27 laps before Teleman’s body cried, “No more”.

Victory means Williams will represent Bermuda at the individual world championships in Tennessee next year.
