Dage Minors finishes seventh of 119 in UK cross-country champs
Bermuda’s best middle distance runner Dage Minors is in good form as he prepares to return to the island to compete in the Butterfield Invitational Mile.
A three-times winner of the race on Front Street, Minors will be attempting to retain his crown on January 17, and he appears to be in fine shape after finishing a fantastic seventh in the South-West Cross-Country Championships in the UK on Saturday.
Held on the grounds of the Royal Naval Air Service Merryfield, just outside Taunton in Devon, the 7.13km race attracts the best runners from the top clubs in the region, with Minors competing for Bristol & West Athletics Club.
The Bermudian was one of four Bristol runners to finish inside the top ten, coming home seventh of the 119 competitors in the senior men’s event in 24min 11sec. That time was exactly a minute behind the winner, Minors’s team-mate Jack Millar, with Felix McGrath, also of Bristol, finishing second in 23:28.
The performance of Minors helped Bristol to glory in the team competition, with the team finishing on 36 points, 30 ahead of their nearest rival Cornwall Athletics Club.
Minors will be favourite to win the Butterfield Mile again in a couple of weeks but could face stiff competition from fellow Bermudian, the improving Ryan Outerbridge, who has also expressed his intention to race.
