Project Action to benefit from Swan's Legends Series

Gunning for titles: Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay will be favourites to win the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series

Competitors in the eighth edition of the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series will be raising funds for Project Action.

Ahead of the start of the first race on Sunday, the Ed Sherlock 8k, organisers of the series announced that Project Action has been chosen as the charity to benefit from funds raised this year.

“Project Action provides free transportation for seniors and persons with physical disabilities island-wide,” said Marla Smith, the Swan's Running Club secretary.

“They provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, physiotherapy or for a drive out when possible. They have been challenged with vehicle issues and funds to run this free service.”

On top of the $1,000 overall prize for the male and female winners, participants have a chance to win, through a raffle, an all-expenses paid trip to Atlanta, Georgia, including hotel stay and race entry to the largest 10K in the world, the AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4.

The series, which celebrates Bermuda's running legends, Ed Sherlock, Ray Swan, Ludwig Cann and Stanley Burgess, starts this weekend and participants must complete at least three of the four races to stand a chance of being crowned the “Legend” winner.

Some of the island’s top runners are expected to fight for top honours in the coming weeks, as they gear up for the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby on May 23.

Sean Trott, who won three of the four races to claim the men’s prize last year, Adam Prunty, Chayce Smith, Lamont Marshall, and Tim Price will be among the contenders for top honours this year.

Gayle Lindsay has dominated the women’s race, with the May 24 champion winning for six years in a row. The 36-year-old’s main challenger could be Christine Dailey if she decides to enter the minimum number of races required for the top prize. Last year, Dailey ran in only two of the races due to overseas commitments.
