All the results from KPMG Around the Grounds
More than 300 runners aged between 4 and 16 made for a fantastic afternoon at the KPMG Round the Grounds race on Sunday.
Some of the island’s youngest athletes took advantage of perfect conditions at the Botanical Gardens as tough competition on the course was mixed with family fun, friendship and community.
The afternoon of races kicked off at 1pm with the 4-year-old girls race over 400 metres, with victory going to Yannis Deshields, who completed the course in 1min 55.34sec. Ellie Boorman (1:59.40) and Reyna Robinson (2:03.24) chased her home and made it on to the podium.
Deshields’s time was the quickest among her age group as Judah Maringi came out on top in the 4-year-old boys race in 1:55.38, beating Sao Wall-Perkins (2:04.29) and Leo Butterworth (2:05.51) into second and third respectively.
Zoe Sund took home the gold medal in the 5-year-old girls race after crossing the line in 1:43.49, just over a second ahead of Cammille Fox (1:44.91) with Channing Hodsoll (1:46.93) picking up third place.
There was a tight finish to the 5-year-old boys race with Beau Hollinger (1:31.93) winning by just 0.19sec from Domenic Bent (1:32.12). Hudson Morash (1:40.84) came home in third place.
The promising Raelyn Robinson was victorious in the 6-year-old girls race over 700 metres, with her time of 3:21.38 good enough to edge out Zhuri Goodchild and 3:23.11 and Satya Tuzo-Smith (3:31.32).
Neymar Mullings probably ran quicker than his Brazilian footballing namesake can when taking top honours in the 6-year-old boys race. Mullings finished in 3:11.50, more than ten seconds clear of runner-up Cezar Bean (3:21.57), with Logan Hayes third in 3:27.82.
Vivienne Fox, who has featured prominently in a number of recent races for children, won the 7-year-old girls race in 3:04.20, with her time good enough to have finished third overall in the age group. Ramyah Swan (3:15.95) and Helena Carneiro (3:21.42) also made it on to the podium.
The 7-year-old boys race was won by Carter Anderson, who stopped the clock in 2:57.97 ahead of Brooklyn Emery (3:02.42) and Rory MacLeod (3:07.69).
Runners aged eight and upwards competed over a mile and the 8-year-old girls race went to Liliana Corbett, who won by a wide margin in 6:24.54 from Nola Thatcher (6:41.27) and Isla Barclay (7:02.40).
Nolan Horrobin won the 8-year-old boys race by more than half a minute after crossing the line in 5:29.98. Takudzwa Benza (6:01.22) and Sol Darrell (6:05.47) followed him home.
Emma Watson took first prize in the race for girls aged 9 or 10, completing the course in 6:05.62. That gave her a four-second margin of victory over Freya Dunkle (6:09.70) and Jordyn Lewis (6:12.74)
One of the closest finishes of the day came in the contest for boys aged 9 or 10 with Joshua Cann (5:56.33) edging out Heath Kemp (5:58.74) by just over two seconds. Declan O’Sullivan (6:03.82) finished third.
The fields merged for the remaining races with boys and girls competing alongside each other and Evelyn Fahy produced a great run in the race for youngsters aged 11 or 12 to finish as the top girl in 5:38.51. That was good enough to finish second overall, with Antoine Whitter the leading boy in 5:33.39.
Harper Franklin (6:04.44) and Isabella Watson (6:13.14) finishied second and third in the girls race, while Matthew Hoey (5:46.40) and Ryun Swan (5:57.89) were on the podium for the boys.
Legend Mcintosh (5:01.54) won the race for athletes aged 13 to 16 ahead Joseph Cechini (5:03.79) and Riana Robinson (5:43.49).
