Frustrating start for Kirklands

Jesse and Zander Kirlkland have endured a frustrating start to their Rolex Miami OCR campaign this week.The brothers are 16th after six races in the 49er class, and have struggled to come to terms with an old boat and breaking in a new rig, and have failed to finish higher than the 12th place they managed in the first of yesterday’s three races.Of the other Bermuda sailors racing in Biscayne Bay in Miami, Peter Bromby is fairing the best in the Star class. Bromby, and crew Lee White are eighth after four races, and trail Brazilian leaders Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada by 33 points.Cameron Pimentel is 61 after four races in the Laser class, while windsurfer Alex Jones is 30th in the men’s RS:X competition.n Five of the nine skippers who have been awarded 2011 World Match Race Tour Cards are previous winners of the King Edward VII Gold Cup Trophy.Johnie Berntsson (Sweden), Peter Gllmour (Australia), Jesper Radich (Denmark), Mathieu Richard (France) and Ian Williams (Britain) have all been to the Island in recent years.The 2011 Argo Group Gold Cup match racing for the King Edward VII Gold Cup Trophy is scheduled for October 4-9, with registration the weekend before and a practice day on Monday October 3.
