Island’s sailors struggle in Miami

Bermuda’s sailors endured another tough day on the water in Biscayne Bay on the third day of the Rolex Miami OCR.Jesse and Zander Kirkland, competing in the 49er Class, again struggled in an old boat they said was like trying to steer soggy cardboard, and the rest of the Island’s contingent didn’t fair much better. The brothers slipped down a place to 17 following yesterday’s three races, when the highest they managed to finish was 12 in the last race of the day. That was a considerable improvement on their previous two attempts, which saw them finish 17 and 22 in the other two races of the day.Olympian Peter Bromby also dropped down the rankings in the Star Class as he and crew Lee White posted finishes of 13, 14 and 21, the last of which the duo dropped as their worst finish.Having begun the day eighth, they are now 11.In the Laser Class Cameron Pimentel slipped from 61 to 69 after six races, while Katrina Williams is 32 in the Laser Radial event.Alex Jones meanwhile hasn’t moved from his position of 30 after failing to complete any of his last four races.
