Smith holds on for narrow win
Benn Smith held off charges from Matilda Nicholls and Campbell Patton to win the Triangle Rigging Mini-Series over the weekend in Hamilton Harbour.Smith came out on top at the end of the five races closely pursued by Nicholls and Patton.Kieran Swann and Christian Chin-Gurret were tied on equal points for fourth place, with Swann’s first place in race two seeing him finish ahead after the tie-break. Nicky Siese rounded out the top half of the fleet.Green Fleet sailor George Buckley finished the day seventh overall after a spectacular fourth place in the last race of the day; he was tied on points with Yannick Hillier who came eighth after another tie-break.Thomas Penruddocke, Samay Dill, Camille Chin and seven- year-old Flo Nicholls battled it out for ninth to 12th place.Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association (BODA) President Anthony Bailey thanked all the volunteers who made the day possible and welcomed the new Green Fleet sailors who came out for some Silver Fleet Racing for the first time.“It was indeed a pleasure to see the Silver fleet sailors racing in and more importantly having fun on Sunday,” said Bailey.“Congratulations to all of them as they were all winners and I do look forward to seeing them continuing to progress throughout the remainder of the year.”Meanwhile Bermuda’s optimist sailors, Antonio Bailey, Rory Caslin, Makai Joell and Chase Cooper, are in Chile competing in the South American Championships.After six races Joell is the highest Bermuda sailor, in 32 place overall, with Bailey (83), Caslin (87) and Copper (124).
