Local sailor Bromby leads Etchells class

Olympic hopeful Peter Bromby made a strong start to the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week in yesterday’s first day of racing.He leads the 11-boat Etchells class after finishing second, sixth and first in his three races in the Great Sound.Jason Owen from the UK is right behind in second and Bermuda’s Tim Patton is third. There is only one point separating first and third place.Bermuda’s Malcolm Smith leads the 17-boat Laser class after two firsts and a third place finish. Rockal Evans, last year’s overall winner, is second after a trio of second place finishes, while Brett Wright is third after coming first and third twice.In the IOD class, Dan Faria from the US leads the 12-boat pack with first, third and second finishes. His compatriot, Scott Redmon, is second and the UK’s Jeremy Preston is third.Bermuda sailors Patrick Cooper and Hubert Watlington didn’t get off to a great start and are 10th and 11th.In the J105 class with four local boats racing, Chuck Millican is first with three bullets, James MacDonald is second and Ed Faries is third.In the J24 class with seven boats racing, Trevor Boyce is leading the way with two firsts and a second finish ahead of Roger Morris, from the UK, and local Pete Ramsdale.There are five classes competing in Race Week; J105, J24, Lasers, Etchells and International One Designs (IODs).
