MSA win schools regatta

More than 30 local sailors competed in the Bermuda Sailing Association’s (BSA) first ever High School Fleet Racing Invitational on Friday.Berkeley Institute, BHS, Mount St. Agnes, Somersfield Academy, Saltus and Warwick Academy all took part with each school fielding a two-boat team.Each team was divided into an ‘A’ and ‘B’ fleet division with Mount Saint Agnes squeaking past Saltus to become the overall winners.Participating for MSA was Brian Bulhoes, representing MSA along with Antonio Bailey, Makai Joell and James Amaral.Sailing for Saltus were Chris Sposato, Brandon Morris, Alex Davis, Daniel Oatley, Ellie Wollmann and Sam Stan.In the ‘A’ division, MSA won with Warwick Academy is second position. In the ‘B’ division, Saltus were victorious with MSA finishing runners-up.BSA are hopeful sailing can become a regular sport with the Bermuda School Sports Federation and that the Island can be competitive within the Interscholastic Sailing Association in the US.In September the BSA are hoping to hold a clinic to educate sailors, coaches and teachers. The next High School regatta is in the planning stages for September.
