Berntsson versus Mirsky in final
Sweden's Johnie Berntsson and Australian Torvar Mirsky have advanced to today's final of the $100,000 Argo Group Gold Cup.Mirsky, who won last month's St Moritz Match Race in Switzerland, swept Kiwi Phil Robertson (3/0) in yesterday's first semi-final contested for in blustery conditions in Hamilton Harbor.Berntsson, the 2008 Gold Cup winner, also had a convincing win (3/1) over Italy's Francesco Bruni in the second semi-final to become the second skipper since England's Ben Ainslie to reach the final via the Repechage in as many years.Berntsson and Mirsky will now face off for the $50,000 jackpot reserved for the eventual winner of today's final.Robertson and Bruni will compete in the Petite Final with the eventual winner to pocket $10,000 in prize earnings. Today's schedule also featured races to determine fifth to eighth positions for prize money ranging from $5,500 to $1,000.After all was said and done 2007 Gold Cup winner Mathieu Richard (France) finished fifth, Jesper Radich (Denmark) sixth, current World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) points leader Ian Williams (England) seventh and Staffan Lindberg (Finland) eighth. Earlier, Bruni got past Richard (3/1) in a first to three points quarter-final that began the day before to advance to the last four.In addition to Gold Cup and RenaissanceRe Junior Gold Cup sailing tomorrow will also see the Festival of Sail held in Barr's Bay Park from 10am to 4pm.
