Caslin makes strong start to World trials
Defending Bermuda national champion Rory Caslin took an early lead despite a six point penalty in the first race of the 2012 Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association World trials last weekend.With five races completed, Caslin stands at six points after carding a 7, 1, 1, 2, 2 for the day and dropping his seventh place finish with the rules stating that sailors are allowed to drop their worst score for every five races sailed.Mike Wollmann is in second place with 11 points followed by Peter Dill with 12 points, Benn Smith with 15 points and Ceci Wollmann with 15 points.Chase Cooper, Makai Joell, Antonio Bailey, Campbell Patton and James Amaral round out the top ten. Racing continues next Saturday and Sunday.Officials were able to complete five races out of the twenty races scheduled over the next few weekends, with the series determining the five local sailors who will represent Bermuda at the 2012 IODA World Championships.This year the World Championships will be held in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic on July 15-26.
