RHADC junior team shine in Miami
Team RHADical made their presence felt in a big way at the 2012 O’Pen BIC World Championships in Miami, Florida at the weekend.The team from Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club emerged as the top performers at the three-day regatta, besting top sailing countries such as Brazil, USA, New Zealand and Australia.Leading the charge was Ceci Wollmann who was the top female in the overall Under-15 age group.The Saltus student had a best finish of fourth and finished sixth overall in the division won by USA’s Geronimo Nores.Peter Dill also impressed, finishing runner-up behind Nores in the overall Under-15 age group with three podium displays to his credit.Ceci’s brother, Mikey, also shone in Miami, plaing finishing runner-up in the overall Under-13 age group with two bullets under his belt.Brandon Adams (35th), Marcus Bassett (38th), Lilly Barboza (30th), Mathew De Frias (injured), Sammy Dill (33rd), Charis Todd (26th, under-13) and Aglae Perrin (34th) made up the remainder of Team RHADical coached by O’Pen BIC dinghy coach Memi.Commenting on the local team’s impressive debut at the championships, RHADC Commodore Alan Williams said: “I am very proud of the whole team.“The kids haven’t had the opportunity to get to know the class very well because we’ve only had the BIC here since the beginning of summer. But to go to the O’Pen BIC World Championships and do so well is remarkable and I am proud of the whole team.”RHADC Rear Commodore Neil Redburn added: “Our junior sailors’ performance at the O’Pen BIC World Championship continues a trend this year of podium finishes for our sailing team.“The O’pen BIC is a new class at RHADC and we are very pleased how the O’pen BIC has “energised” our junior sailors.”The was hosted by Miami Yacht Club.
