Wollmanns show form in Paracas

Fine day on the water: Cecilia and Michael Wollmann are competing in the Nacra 17 class at the Pan Am Games

Siblings Cecilia and Michael Wollmann enjoyed a promising day on the waters of La Bahía de Paracas in the Nacra 17 class at the Pan American Games today.

The pair posted finishes of sixth, fifth, sixth and seventh in their four races to lift themselves into eighth position in the 11-team standings on 46 points.

Puerto Rico in seventh are just two points ahead of the Bermuda team.

“It was windier today and we seemed to have good boat speed, which is always helpful,” Cecilia said.

“Our manoeuvres and starts were better, which put us closer to the top guys and we were able to be a lot more competitive with them. We’re hoping for the momentum to continue.”

After two days of cancelled racing because of a lack of wind, the mixed multihull class finally got under way on Monday, with Cecilia and Michael placing seventh, ninth, eighth and seventh.

Meanwhile, Benn Smith moved into seventeenth place after finishing fourteenth, fifteenth and seventeenth in his three races in the Laser class yesterday to leave him on 61 points. He came sixteenth and nineteenth in his opening two races on Monday after two days of cancelled racing.

There are five races remaining in both events before the start of the medal races. Racing continues tomorrow.
