Peter Bromby and Mark Watson defended their Bacardi Keelboat Regatta titles in the Great Sound at the weekend.

Former Olympian Bromby pipped James MacDonald by two points in the ten race series to retain his title in the J-105 fleet.

Glenn Astwood finished a further five points back in third to round off the podium.

Watson retained his title among the Etchells class after finishing the nine race series five points clear of second placed John Hele. Tim Patton secured the third and final spot on the podium another three points off the lead pace.

This year saw a new champion crowned in the International One Design Class as St George’s Dinghy Club helmsman Kelsey Durham claimed Patrick Cooper’s vacant title.

Durham, the overnight leader, won the ten-race series by a comfortable nine point margin over second placed Blythe Walker of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.

Bill McNiven, of the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, finished third a further four points off the lead.

The three day championship concluded on Saturday in favourable conditions with the race committee managing to get all the required racing in, despite the opening day having been cancelled due to high winds.
