Evans drops down leaderboard

Bermuda sailor Rockal Evans

Rockal Evans continued his bid to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer at the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne, Australia, today.

The Bermudian finished day one yesterday in 40th position and dropped down the pecking order to 42nd after two more races of the competition at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

Evans finished 38th in the first race yesterday and 39th in the second, leaving him on 160 points.

Josh Junior, of New Zealand, leads the way on 12 points, Nenad Bugarin is second on 26 points and Kiwi Andy Maloney is third on 27 points.

Evans has made Australia his training base as he bids to qualify for the Olympics.

He is bidding to follow in the footsteps of his late grandfather, Howard Lee, who represented Bermuda in the single-handed Finn dinghy at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.
