Evans drops down standings

Rockal Evans

Rockal Evans dropped a further place down the overall standings after the third day at the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne, Australia, today.

The Bermudian found himself in 42nd place after the first two days of competing, finishing day one in 40th-place after two races, before falling two places after a further two races on Tuesday at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

Evans started promisingly yesterday, finishing the day’s first race and fifth in the series overall with 39 points, his equal second best showing.

However, things took a turn for the worse in the remaining two races, starting with a score of 42 points in race six. He made a slight improvement in race seven, finishing on 41 points to conclude the day’s racing.

Despite the steady showings, Evans dropped a place in the standings to 43rd overall, with an overall net points of 239.

Evans will be aiming to make vast improvements ahead of returning to the water tomorrow with three more races as he continues his bid to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer.

Josh Junior, of New Zealand continues to lead the 60-boat fleet, with a net points score of just 17, ahead of Giles Scott, who won gold in the Finn Class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, on 30 points and Zsombor Berecz, of Hungary, on 35 points.
