Evans climbs three places in standings
Rockal Evans climbed three places in the overall standings at the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne, Australia yesterday.
The Bermudian found himself in 43rd place heading into the fourth day of competition at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, having finished in 39th, 42nd, and 41st places respectively, from Thursday’s races, leaving him on a total of 239 net points.
However, he enjoyed a vastly improved performance on the water yesterday, finishing the day with his best two results of the regatta so far.
In the first race of the day and eighth of the event, Evans achieved his best finish, claiming 34th-place, before building on that momentum with a respectable 35-place finish in race nine.
This left Evans with a total of 308 net points, enough to see him climb three places in the overall standings to 40th.
Josh Junior, of New Zealand continues to lead the 60-boat fleet, with a net points score of just 30, despite mixed fortunes yesterday finishing 16th in the first race, before an improved finish of eighth in race nine.
Nicholas Heiner, of Netherlands is second with a total of 46 net points, ahead of Zsombor Berecz, of Hungary, on 49 points and Great Britain’s Giles Scott with 51 points.
