A mixture of youth and experience was recognised at the Comet Class Yacht Racing Association of Bermuda’s annual prize-giving ceremony at the Mid Atlantic Boat and Sports Club last weekend.

Fleet champions Maxwell Curtis and Stefan Furbert were the biggest winners of the evening. Meanwhile, Whitney Institute student Tajari Rogers, 12, was also rewarded for his success with Dale Brangman, with the pair winning the prestigious 75th Annual Edward Cross Long Distance Race last June, as well as several victories on the season circuit.

Rogers also sailed internationally as crew for Brangman at the CCRA International Regatta in Oxford, Maryland, last August, where they finished eighth.

Rudy Bailey and Corey Bean captured the International Championship title, while Curtis and Furbert sailed to a fourth-place finish.

This season, the Comet Racing Association prepares for the International Championship Regatta to be held from June 16 to 20 in the Great Sound. Fifteen teams from clubs across New England and the Mid-Atlantic states have already registered for the event.

Seasonal events are facilitated by three member clubs: West End Sailboat Club, Mid Atlantic Boat and Sports Club and East End Mini Yacht Club.

For more information about the international race, contact Dale Brangman at debrangman@hotmail.com or Joann Adams at joann@northrock.bm. Alternatively, call Ms Adams on 236-6540 or 799-7979
