Trystan Hocking still leading Bermuda sailors in Mexico
Trystan Hocking continued as Bermuda’s highest-placed sailor after two more races on day two of the Optimist North American Championship in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, yesterday.
Hocking was 31st at press time after recording finishes of 22nd and 38th in races four and five.
PJ Rodrigues is 38th after finishes of 24th and fourteenth in races four and five.
Bermuda’s competitors continued to find the going tough, although Jordan Vierira did have a top-ten finish in race five when he placed eighth in the Blue Group, after a 41st-place finish in the earlier race. He moved up from 100th after the opening three races.
Vierira is 61st overall in the fleet of 110 junior sailors from 12 countries.
Riley Lowe maintained her 64th position after finishes of 29th and 31st in races four and five in the Blue Group.
Isaac Wickramage and Sarah Davis are 70th and 73rd overall after Wickramage finished of 28th and 25th, and Davis 30th and 35th yesterday.
The other Bermuda sailors competing are Jack Adderley (79th), Kipling Rossouw (80th), Sophia Dias (86th) and Shiloh Cruikshank (93rd).
Fynn Olsen, of the United States, leads the fleet with nine points after finishes of 3-2-1-2-1 in the first five races. US sailors occupy the top five places.
The championship is being hosted by the Vallarta Yacht Club and runs until Saturday.
