Nagel to helm all female team in ETF26 series
Emily Nagel is set to take the helm of a star-studded all-women’s team during the 2023 ETF26 Grand Prix season opener in La Trinité Sur Mer, France, today (Friday).
The Bermuda sailor is representing Athena Pathway whose team also includes Olympic gold medal winner Eilidh Mcintytre, the highly versatile Kate MacGreggor and Nacra 17 great Nikki Boniface.
Mcintytre and MacGreggor will both serve on the bow while Boniface is on the mainsheet.
The foursome were chosen on ability and required weight restrictions for the class following two trials held last month in challenging weather conditions
However, they will continue to be assessed in order for Athena Pathway to select the best teams for all of the ETF26 events as well as generate a team to compete in next year’s Women and Youth Americas Cup in Barcelona, Spain.
France will host three of five scheduled ETF26 Grand Prix regattas with Italy and Spain hosting the remaining two.
The ETF26 is a 26 foot foiling catamaran built to one design specifications.
Professional sailor and SailGP commentator Nagel has considerable experience in foiling classes having competed in the single-handed International Moth Class.
