Bermuda sailor Julia Lines and her Down Under Racing team-mates will look to continue their impressive run in this year’s Bermuda Gold Cup in Hamilton Harbour today.

The 26-year-old is competing with Harry Price’s team who are among the four semi-finalists, which also includes rivals and past winners Johnie Berntsson, Ian Williams and Taylor Canfield, who will lock horns when the match racing spectacle resumes from a two-day hiatus due to Tropical Storm Philippe.

The Australian team advanced from the group stage with a 5-2 record and secured their spot in the last four after rallying from a 2-0 deficit to edge rivals Capvis Swiss Match Race Team 3-2 in the best of five quarter-final on Wednesday.

“I am obviously really excited to build on what we did on Wednesday,” an optimistic Lines said. “It’s been nice having a little rest after that long day, so I think we will all be feeling pretty fresh and we will see if the other teams are feeling a similar way.

“We are just hoping the weather doesn’t prevent us from racing tomorrow because it would be a shame for us to not be able to move up in the rankings or have the chance to do so.”

It does not get any easier for Lines’ team heading into the last four where they will likely face Berntsson, who has earned the right to choose his opponent based on his unbeaten record thus far in this year’s regatta.

That won’t be determined until the semi-final pairings are confirmed at the skippers’ briefing prior to racing.

“We will see, but I assume that will happen,” added Lines, who is making her second appearance in the World Match Racing Tour regatta.

Meanwhile, the final day of the RenaissanceRe Junior Gold Cup will also take place today.

Gianmarco Piovanetti, of Puerto Rico, leads the overall fleet while Bermuda’s Nina Gotfredsen tops the local leaderboard.
