Bermuda facing uphill struggle to qualify in Star Sailors League Gold Cup
Bermuda’s sailors have their work cut out if they are to make it into the 1/8 finals of the Star Sailors League Gold Cup.
Rockal Evans and his crew never recovered from a slow start to finish last of four for the second straight day in Gran Canaria, Spain.
After crossing the start line in last position, Bermuda managed to pass Hungary on the way to mark one but lost ground from there, eventually finishing 1min 44sec behind race winners Tahiti.
“I had a clear call from our tactician so I was able to do the start he wanted me to do, then we just had to keep moving and get ahead if we could and we managed to win,” said Tahiti helmsman Teva Plichart
Tahiti now top the group on 11 points, two clear of Hungary, with Bermuda and Finland both on five points.
With just one race left and double points available, Bermuda, racing as The Privateers, can still qualify but they will need to win the race and hope Hungary finish last if they are to seal one of the two qualifying spots.
