Bermuda sailors Sebastian Kempe, Campbell Patton and Benn Smith endured another tough day at the ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship in Adelaide, Australia, on Monday.

Kempe produced finishes of 36th and 32nd in the opening two races in the silver fleet, in which he is presently 41st among the 51-strong fleet.

Patton managed finishes of 27th and 36th in the same fleet and now sits just two places behind compatriot Kempe in 43rd. Smith crossed the line in 35th and 37th in his two races in the 50-strong bronze fleet, in which he is presently 32nd.

The sailors in the silver and bronze fleets have just two races remaining on Tuesday, while the gold fleet also has an additional medal race.

Spain’s Joaquin Blanco Albalat and St Lucia’s Luc Chevrier are the leaders in the silver and gold fleets.

Reigning Olympic and World Champion Matt Wearn, of Australia, is the overall leader followed by England’s Michael Beckett and Norway’s Hermann Tomasgaard.

Bermuda’s contingent will now be hoping for a strong finish in the remaining two races after falling short of the primary objective of securing a spot for the island at this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
