Adriana Penruddocke is inspired by the progress she has made in preparation for her Olympic debut in Paris later this month.

The Bermudian sailor reckons the hard work she put in during a final training camp at the Olympic sailing venue in Marseille has paid off in the build-up to the Games.

“I just wrapped up the final training block and feel really good and sharp in the boat,” Penruddocke told The Royal Gazette.

“In terms of conditions, we have gotten a mixture and I have gotten it all written down in my play book, so when it comes to the day we can look back upon it and identify what the feelings were and how it would link with that day.

“I feel confident with it and now it’s about staying sharp with short and sharp sessions.”

The 23-year-old qualified for her maiden Olympic appearance competing at the Pan American Games in Algarrobo, Chile, last November and is the only sailor representing Bermuda at the upcoming Games.

As to her Olympic expectations, Penruddocke insists that she is not feeling any pressure.

“I don’t have any expectations but I also don’t have any limitations as anything can happen,” she said.

I am just going to focus on some process goals I have laid out for the event.”

The Olympic sailing regatta will be held at Marseille Marina from July 28 to August 8 and Penruddocke is among eight athletes, alongside triathletes Dame Flora Duffy, Erica Hawley, Tyler Smith, triple jumper Jah-Nhai Perinchief, swimmers Jack and Emma Harvey and rower Dara Alizadeh, flying Bermuda’s flag at the upcoming Games

Duffy is the defending women’s triathlon champion and is making her fifth appearance at the Games. She is responsible for inspiring a generation of Bermudian athletes in various sport.

“Flora is an inspiration and I’m proud to be part of team Bermuda as I have always looked up to her, but also everyone else too,” Penruddocke said.

“We are all strong athletes and everyone in the team has something to look up to in my opinion.”
