Nina Gotfredsen leads Bermuda sailors at World Championships
Bermuda’s Optimist sailors have completed their first day at the World Championships in Argentina.
The five-strong squad are competing in a field of 224 teenage sailors, with the huge regatta split into three groups of just over 70 for the first few days of competition.
After the first day of action, Nina Gotfredsen is top of the Bermuda contingent in 79th position after finishing in 29th and 26th in her two races in the yellow group.
Gotfredsen’s total of 55 points puts her six places ahead of Miguel Power, but he produced the best individual performance of the Bermuda sailors when finishing sixteenth in the blue group’s second race after ending the opener in 45th.
Competing in the red group is Evan Davis, who is in 167th position after achieving finishing positions of 56th and 53rd in his two races.
Rory Savage, competing alongside Gotfredsen in the yellow group, is 173rd overall after finishing 59th and 56th, while Noah Amaradasa is 200th after finishing 59th in his first race and failing to complete the second.
The regatta is headed by local sailor Lucas Andres Vogt and Arthur Back, from Brazil, who both picked up a win and a second in the opening two races.
