The coach of two of Bermuda’s top sailors has been featured in one of the sport’s premier publications.

Shaun Priestley, who coaches Adriana Penruddocke and Sebastian Kempe, spoke to Yachts and Yachting, a leading sailing magazine launched in 1947, which covers every aspect of the racing scene and sailing techniques, boasting 30,000 readers every month.

Penruddocke successfully navigated a challenging qualification campaign to secure her place in this year’s Olympic Games. Priestley also coached German sailor Julia Büsselberg at the event in Marseille, and the article highlights the coach’s pride in leading two of his sailors to the world’s biggest stage.

"I am immensely proud of the ILCA 6 Olympic Games campaign," Priestley said. "Adriana had some fantastic moments both in the qualifying process and out in Marseille at the Games, showing her potential going forwards.

"It was also a pleasure to work with Julia in both the build-up to and at the Olympics. The future is looking bright for these talented sailors."

While Kempe narrowly missed out on ILCA 7 Olympic qualification this year, he achieved notable success under Priestley’s guidance, including winning the Youth World Championships in the ILCA 6 in 2021 and finishing second in 2022. He also secured a silver medal in the under-21 men’s division and placed fourth overall in a fleet of 60 at this year’s British national championships.

Currently, Priestley, Penruddocke, and Büsselberg are in Bermuda alongside several British teams at a training camp, while Kempe and Italian sailor Matteo Bertacchi continue honing their skills at a camp in Vilamoura, Portugal.
