Cautious Franks backing Big Cats

Devonshire Cougars defender Kijuan Franks is cautiously optimistic that his side have what it takes to see off the challenge of PHC tomorrow at Lords in their FA Cup semi-final.The defending champions will lock horns with the ten time champions for the right to take their place in the final at the National Sports Centre where they will play either St. David’s or Southampton Rangers.Although not looking ahead, Franks, who used to ply his trade at St. David’s, is happy with his side’s chances of reaching successive finals and is adamant that the pressure is not on his side.“We are preparing for this game like any other, although there is more riding on it than a league game,” said Franks.“I don’t think we have any pressure on us being the champions, we just need to go out and play to the potential we know we are capable of.“The styles are a bit the same but the winner will come from the side who plays the better football and who wants it more, and on the day it can be anyone’s game.“On the day whoever takes their chances will prevail, they have some good players as do we, so it will be interesting to see what happens.”Cougars have had a rollercoaster season in the league, but remarkably are still on course to win two cups.Besides the match against Zebras tomorrow, the Big Cats also have a Friendship semi-final date with St. George’s in little more than a week’s time. The side have dropped just five points in the second half of the season, a record that is only bettered by Dandy Town.Franks acknowledged the team’s early season misfortunes wrecked their league hopes but believes the cup competitions can be the perfect ending to a topsy-turvy season.“Our season has been up and down but our second half has been better than the first,”he said“A win in this game doesn’t so much prepare us for the game against St. George’s, we have met them numerous times already but it will push us in the right direction to get a result against them.“If we can get a victory over PHC then that will make us just as hungry, if not more hungry to reach another cup final this year.”Tomorrow’s match at Lords kicks off at 2.30 pm.
