Hogges on verge of triple transfer coup
Bermuda Hogges are attempting to pull off a triple transfer coup which could see Reggie Lambe, Nahki Wells and Khano Smith form a potent three-pronged attack this season.Lambe and Wells are considering playing for Hogges to maintain their fitness for when they return to England in July to look for new clubs. The pair are out of contract having been released by their respective teams, Ipswich Town and Carlisle United.Smith could feature for the Hogges later this summer once he resolves his contract dispute with Carolina RailHawks.A Hogges source said: “(The Hogges) are trying to get all of the former professionals on board ... there should be some exciting names in this season's squad.”Hogges' season was to be used as preparation for the Under-23 Olympic qualifiers but with the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) deciding to bypass that competition, the focus has shifted to the senior national team. And with the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, the BFA/Hogges coaches want to reintegrate key players such as Lambe, Wells and Smith back into the international fold.Wells, who played for Hogges last season, recently told The Royal Gazette he would “under no circumstances be playing for the Hogges” but it's understood the 20-year-old has since had a change of heart.Ex-New England Revolution winger Smith is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with his new side RailHawks and insists he will not turn out for them this campaign. He told this newspaper earlier this week he had not ruled out played for the Hogges: “It would be something I'd have to talk to them about before saying yes or no to playing.“I'm trying to sort myself out right now in terms of a coaching business out (in the US) but I'm not against it.”Hogges take on Reading United in their first game of the Premier Development League (PDL) campaign next Friday at BFA Field.United have won the first three games of the season and are top of the Eastern Conference Mid Atlantic Division. The Hogges are set to name their squad for the 2011 season today.
