Bermuda Hogges midfielder Kwame Steede has called his team-mates to turn BAA Field into a fortress as they end their three game home stand on Saturday night against Ocean City FC.The Hogges have lost their opening two matches, both at home, and are currently second from the bottom in the Eastern Conference Mid Atlantic Division.Ocean City, however, aren’t much better, losing three of their first four games to sit one place above the Hogges, with their lone point being gained after coming from behind against Long Island last weekend.For Steede, a former Hogges captain, it’s imperative they start getting points at home in order to relieve the pressure of having to go on the road looking for results.“It’s early in the season so you can’t really gauge how good we are in the opening games of the season,” said Steede.“We have played a few games and do have a few things to iron out but for the most part it’s about getting our first win under our belts and look to improve from each game.“We have played two home games already and a win in our final home game of the three game home series will go a long way for us, it will give us a positive result to push on from as we go on the road.“Every team wants to perform well, especially at home and build their home venue as a fortress so hopefully the win this weekend would be a springboard.”Mental lapses, and the inability to punish their opponents’ defensive mistakes have been the main reason Hogges’ failure to make the most of their home field advantage.Steede believes as long as the side stick together and work out the small kinks in the armour, they should be okay when they head on the road next week.“We have a good team, the losses we have don’t justify how we have played, and we have been unfortunate to say the least in terms of the results,” said Steede.“In the first game we had a few lapses, went down a man, and ended up losing 3-2, so we showed a lot of character.“The second game we were done in by the small mistakes we made, and in this league and at higher levels teams will make you pay for your mistakes. We had a lot more shots on target then they did but they got two goals from being more clinical in front of goal so we just need to get our first win and it will bring confidence to the whole team.“When you go on the road, teams make you feel unwelcome by the crowd and their intensity from the beginning of the game, so we will have to hit the road next week with a win in order to put us in good stead.“A couple of wins at home makes things easier on the road, you won’t need as many results to go in your favour if you get the wins in your backyard.”The Hogges take on Ocean City at BAA Field on Saturday. Kick off is at 7pm.
