No haircuts for Hogges until they win

The longer they go without a victory this season, the hairier it could get for Bermuda Hogges in more ways than one.Spurred on by a challenge by their coaches, Hogges’ players have agreed not to have a haircut or shave until the team win a game.Still without a victory after seven Premier Development League games, Hogges go in hunt of their first win of the campaign tomorrow night against Westchester Flames at BAA Field. And Hogges coach Maurice Lowe, also in on the pact, believes Bermuda’s barber shops could be in for a busy Sunday morning.“The team has made a pact that none of us will get haircuts or shaves until we win,” he said.“Hopefully the guys will all be in the barber shops on Sunday morning.”Hogges quest for an elusive win will be that much tougher without their top goalscorer Domico Coddington, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Devonshire Cougars player, who was injured in Hogges’ recent road trip, is likely to miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his foot.Hogges are also without midfielder Troy Tucker and Lejuan Simmons who are both injured. Simmons is out for eight weeks with a strained calf following a motorcycle accident.“We do have a few injury troubles but we will have to cope,” said Lowe, who decided against bringing US-based Khano Smith back for Hogges’ match against Flames.“This fixture doesn’t really allow for Khano to come back. It wouldn’t be very cost effective as it’s just one game.“Hopefully if we get a few fixtures back-to-back he may feature. If he doesn’t have commitments overseas when we next go away then he will play.”Lowe said Hogges knew exactly what to expect from Flames who beat the Islanders 3-0 in New Jersey earlier this month.“There are no secrets; we’ve played Westchester and we know what they have to offer.“We didn’t do as well as we thought we should have in the last match, so we’re looking to reverse that result and get redemption.”Hogges take on Flames at 7pm tomorrow night.
