Hogges' winning run comes to a halt
Central Jersey 1Bermuda Hogges 0Bermuda Hogges' three-game winning streak came to a halt last night with a narrow defeat against Central Jersey Spartans.Confidence was high in Hogges' camp before the game, following the team's unprecedented three successive victories over Westchester Flames, Ocean City and New Jersey Rangers. But last night's match at Rider University Field proved a step too far, with Hogges coming undone midway through the second half when Spartans scored the winner. The defeat means fifth-place Hogges cannot qualify for this season's Premier Development League play-offs.Hogges coach Maurice Lowe believed his team deserved at least a draw from the match, but admitted their attacking play was lacking in fluency.“It was a hard loss; we could have got something from the game,” he said. “They had a chance midway in the second half and they took it.“We were mindful of not being overly confident going into the match, but unfortunately the result didn't go our way tonight.”Lowe has called for his players to put last night's loss behind them and return to winning ways against Reading United tomorrow night Hogges' final away match of the season.“We have to pick ourselves up and try and get a result against Reading,” said Lowe. “Hopefully we can give an improved performance.“We're extremely happy with the way the season has been shaping up for us in terms of our performances and results. At the beginning of the season we weren't getting the results our performances deserved; now we're getting points as well as performances, which is encouraging.”Hogges take on Reading at Exeter High School tomorrow at 8 pm (Bermuda time).Released Ipswich Town winger Reggie Lambe has returned to League Two side Bristol Rovers on trial.Lambe, 20, spent the final few weeks of last season on loan at Rovers, making seven appearances for the Pirates. He was told he wouldn't be offered a new contract at Portman Road by Town manager Paul Jewell in May.Lambe will be out to impress new manager Paul Buckle, who has taken over at the Memorial Stadium in the wake of their relegation to League Two.The Bermuda international, who trained with Hogges this summer, played the first half of a 5-1 friendly win for Rovers at Mangotsfield United last night.During his two years with Ipswich, Lambe made four Carling Cup starts and two Championship substitute appearances.Last month he told The Royal Gazette he was keen to join Rovers on a permanent deal.“I'm hoping to get a deal with Bristol Rovers, I really enjoyed my time there and would like to move there permanently,” Lambe said.“They didn't really have a manager in place but that's been sorted now, so I'm waiting to see what happens.“I expect they will be talking to my agent within the next two weeks and I'm hoping they offer me something.“There have been other offers. I haven't turned a blind eye to them but I want to see what happens with Rovers first.”
