Race is on to fill Corona League spots
St David’s and Fire FC have pulled out of the Corona League after struggling to field teams on several occasions last season. And with new season due to kick-off in a month’s time, Corona League president Mike McGrath and his executive board will have their hands searching for two replacements.St David’s only managed one win last season, finishing bottom of the table, while Fire FC finished eighth on 22 points. With the season starting in one month’s time, McGrath and his colleagues are now looking at applicants to fill the void left behind by the two clubs, although there are more then enough teams ready to take the place of either of these teams.“The schedule is still being confirmed as there are a few options we are still looking into,” said McGrath. “St David’s and Team Fire have pulled out this season as they were struggling to put in competitive teams.“We have informed all the teams that we have on file that have requested entry into the Corona League and are announcing the opportunity for teams to apply in the Gazette as well.”Noting that all teams applying will get a fair shake fo the dice, McGrath is confident the spots will be filled in due time.“The executive will put together an application process to make sure that teams are suitable and then the decision of selection will be a democratic vote made by all the teams in the league.”League champions Vasco are set to open the season when they clash with North Village in the Charity Cup.
