Nusum available for Guyana game
John Barry Nusum will fly out to Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow morning to link up with the Bermuda team ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Guyana on Tuesday. The Island’s leading goalscorer has been added to the Bermuda squad for the second game of their trip to the Caribbean after being left out of Devarr Boyles originally plans because of work committments.Nusum opted to miss today’s game against Trinidad so he could finish his work with a children’s summer camp at Sandys 360, something he said he “needed to hold on to”.However, he revealed that he and head coach Devarr Boyles had discussed the situation and agreed the big striker would join the squad when he could.“What happened was I had a committment with my job as far as what I was doing with the kids this week, so obviously, today’s Friday, last day of the week, and I’m free to travel,” said Nusum. “Everything was happening so fast and last minute and I thought the committment I had to the kids was something I needed to hold on to.“Devarr and I actually spoke about this before they took off. We knew what the plan was going forward anyway.”Like plenty of other Bermuda fans Nusum will be glued to the Internet come 5pm when his Bermuda team-mates take to the field to take on the Soca Warriors, and is looking forward to joining up with a teame he hopes will be celebrating a win.“I’ve been training off and on with the Hogges for most of the summer,” he said, “for me it has been good to get back into the mode of it and I’m definitely enjoying the moment.“Hopefully we come out with a good result, a win would be awesome, but we’re definitely looking for at least a draw.”Nusum’s addition will add more experience to the Bermuda squad, and the Wolves boss said he thought his job off the field was just as important on it. Reiko Trott is also joining the team tomorrow.“For me, I have a bit more experience than some guys, and so it’s just kind of giving a little push where a push is needed in some areas,” he said. “In other areas I’m learning from a lot of the younger guys because a lot of these younger guys had opportunities that a lot of us haven’t had. So sometimes it’s good to learn from younger players as well.“I’m definitely an older person in the team, so experience, and being a role model for how it should be done is one of my jobs, moreso than what’s actually happening on the field.”* See The Royal Gazette for regular updates from today’s game in Trinidad. Kick-off is 5pm.
