Defeat was tough to take, says keeper Hall
Goalkeeper Freddy Hall said losing to Guyana last night was a bitter pill to swallow but believed Bermuda only had themselves to blame. The defeat was Devarr Boyles side’s second in the space of five days, leaving them six points behind Group B leaders Guyana at this current early juncture. And although Bermuda’s display was full of hard work and determination, Hall reckoned the Gombey Warriors helped orchestrate their own downfall by making sloppy mistakes.“We made little mistakes that, at crucial stages, had a huge influence on the game,” said Hall. “It’s always a bitter pill to swallow when you lose but when the goals come from your own mistakes it’s all that much harder to accept.“The team was focused, even before the first goal went in, to get a result and although we did concede we never gave up hope. Scoring late on gave us a little incentive to go on and get the result, but it wasn’t to be for us on the night.“The boys put in a valiant effort, so I’m proud of them and now we will look to come home and get some points on home soil.”Bermuda will now play their next three matches in the friendly confines of National Sport Centre, and although they have a steep mountain to climb to get back in the race for top spot, Hall is confident they will be able to jump start their campaign.Hall, who was by far and away the busier keeper on the night, saw postives in his side’s defeat and believes they take can plenty of heart from their performances against Trinidad and Guyana.“We are all on the same page in knowing that we need results in our home matches and we will be ready for the next set of matches,” said the 26-year-old“We didn’t play bad at all in either of these two opening games, but we were made to pay for our little mistakes and that’s the difference at this level. When we come home Bermuda will see that we are a talented group and we are playing good football. Tonight I felt we were a bit unlucky.“I feel I had an okay game, obviously playing my position the job is to keep the ball out of the net.“I enjoyed the game and I just hope that the next match we can get a win to put us back on track.”
