Boulevard coach Haile Outerbridge was full of praise for his young side after they drew with Southampton Rangers at BAA Field in their final league game before the Christmas break. The team have had a rough go of things in recent weeks but a spirited collective effort earned them a share of the spoils in a game that saw them lead twice.“The conditions weren't the best, the sloppy pitch with the wind made for an interesting game that went back and forth,” said Outerbridge. “At the end of the day I'm proud of my team because we are at the bottom of the league but are still fighting and scrapping in every game.“We are showing that there is a second half of the season and that we are determined to get back in the thick of things and not lay down.“It wasn't the result we were looking for but we will settle for the point and go into the break on a good note.”Things got off to a positive start for the hosts who were up in the 18th minute when a Ricky Saltus cross was met in the Rangers area by a diving Mel Gibbons who planted his effort into the net.But that lead would last for only seven minutes as a deflected Vernon Perinchief shot beat Robert Wilson in goal for Boulevard to level matters.Blazers might have restored their lead minutes after conceding but winger Sergio Robinson was ruled offsideThey were back in front six minutes into the second half after a well worked set piece between Mel and Ajani Gibbons resulted in the latter latching onto a through ball and poking his shot past Jason Smith.A second win for Blazers looked on the cards as they calmly absorbed any pressure that was placed on them and played counterattacking football to good effect. But three points wasn't to be as Dennis Russell fired home the equaliser in the 82nd minute to leave the game deadlocked. The result leaves Rangers seventh in the table on 10 points while Blazers are still on the bottom with four points.“We came into the season knowing that we are working with a junior squad and that it will be difficult, we lost a lot of players and it will be a tough season and a battle to the end,” added Outerbridge.“It wasn't going to be the best of seasons and we are looking to make the most of it.”Boulevard: R Wilson, A Gibbons, J Crockwell, C Hayward, S Furbert, D Taylor, A Foggo, A Famous, S Robinson (T Stovell, 58), R Saltus (T Wilson, 68), M Gibbons,Substitutes not used: S Outerbridge, T Lowe, D Simons,Booked: A GibbonsGoals: M Gibbons, 17, A Gibbons, 51Southampton Rangers: J Smith, M Tankard, A Russell, K Simmons, I Mallory, M Williams, G Johnson (Y Bean, 68), E Stoneham, V Perinchief, D Russell (R Lowe, 82), C Castle (K Jones, 72)Substitutes not used: M Burch, T FordBooked: A RussellGoals: Perinchief 24, Russell 82Referee: K EdwardsMan of the Match: A Gibbons
