Leaders Wolves denied by late goal

Wolves 2 Devonshire Colts 2Wolves finished the first-half of the season on top of the First Division table but player-coach John Barry Nusum was disappointed by the fact that a late goal by Lozendro Symonds prevented his team from entering the Christmas break with a triumph.Wolves were stunned by that strike after 88 minutes which denied Wolves from snatching the maximum points they deserved from a contest which they held a decisive edge for long periods. However, coach Nusum, who never suited up for the clash, was not angry with his team for not being able to build onto their 1-0 lead and hold an advantage until the very end.“I am disappointed that we didn’t take the three points, but overall we can’t let things get away from us like we did today. We must remain composed instead of doing a lot of scrambling like we did today,’’ said Nusum. The coach believed his team had earned where they are, at the head of the standings, because of a hard work he complimented Tamauri Tucker, in particular, for his contribution after just joining the team this season.“Yes, he has been excellent. He is one of the new players that we just brought in and he has become a vital member of the squad. I’m really pleased with what he has contributed so far.”While Wolves did allow their opponents to claw themselves back into contention after the home team had gained the upper hand, Colts goalkeeper Treshun Smith had a lot to do with some astonishing saves, denying Wolves from scoring several times. In addition to the goalkeeping heroics, Colts remained competition on a day when they fielded four Under-16 players, including Aaron Critchlow who snatched the equalising goal mid-way through the second half.Sergio Richardson gave Wolves the lead after 25 minutes, an advantage they held until the interval.Wolves looked capable of stretching the lead afterwards but their edge was lost when Critchlow drew Colts level with a goal after 63 minutes.Vince Minors deservedly helped them re-establish a one-goal lead after 75 minutes and Wolves pressed for more goals only to be denied by hitting the post and having three shots sail inches wide. But they were rocked when Symons hammered home a deflected free kick from 20 yards two minutes from the end to have the teams finish in a deadlock.Hamilton Parish 1 Social Club 3At Wellington Oval, Social Club surprised third placed Hamilton Parish after taking a comfortable 2-0 lead at the half.Robert Rawlins and Shamori Burns netted for the visitors in the opening half before Rodney Trott pulled one back for Parish when he converted a penalty early in the second half. But before Parish could grab the equaliser, former Parish player Robert Somner got the third for Social Club.
