Parish too hot for X’Roads in Shield final

X’Roads 0Hamilton Parish 2Hamilton Parish defended their Shield crown with a comfortable victory over X’Roads at the National Sports Centre on New Year’s Day.Goals from Ian Coke and Jahkai Outerbridge were enough to seal the win over their First Division promotion rivals.Parish coach Keishon Smith, celebrating his first trophy win as Parish coach, hopes their cup final win will act as a catalyst in their push for promotion.“Not often do you see two evenly matched teams actually playing an exciting and closely contested match, it’s usually one of them run away with it or it’s boring so it’s pleasing to give the crowd this match,” said Parish coach Keishon Smith.“It’s a good result for the club and the community, but it’s a bonus for us as we are looking to get promoted.“The main objective is to continue this momentum into the rest of the season in order for us to reach our goal, but we will be happy with this result.”It could have been a different outcome had X’Roads striker Khomeini Talbot put home his spot kick in the 11th minute after he was hauled down by Calvin Hansey in the area. His kick, however, sailed over the bar, and with it his side’s chances of winning the game.Man of the match Shane Hollis almost put Parish ahead moments later, but his searching run down the flank lacked the finishing touch that saw his shot go wide of the mark. The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when a partially cleared corner fell to Outerbridge, and the left back planted his long distance effort into the far post to give his side the lead.It wasn’t until the 80th minute that game was finally put to bed, when Hollis and Ian Coke, who had linked up to devastating effect throughout the match, put together fine intertwining passage of play that resutled in Coke puncturing the net.He was the recipient of the delicious Hollis chip over the ‘keeper that fell on his head, resulting in one of the easiest goals the pacey winger will score in his career.Smith added: “This result gives us a major boost, it also allows me to have added time in sorting out our preparations in terms of our goals and knowing that the team is believing what I’m trying to do is a good thing.“The first goal was always important and to get it and be on the front foot was great and we held onto the lead.“It’s a good result for us, both teams came out to play and get the win and credit for them because they helped make the game what it was.”X’Roads: T Smith, O Williams, T Talbot, S Worrell, M Astwood, A Burgess, D Musson, D Durrant (C Woolridge, 45), J Daniels (M Iris, 75), K Talbot (M Balboda, 50), U TalbotSubstitutes not used: D Dunlop, R Beek, T Daniels, M Ming, C Williams, D BakerYellow card: M BalbodaHamilton Parish: N Burgess, K Darrell, J Marshall, R Trott (R Richardson, 65), C Hansey, D Simmons, S Hollis, D Thomeson (N Swan, 81), I Coke, M Dill (D Rogers, 72), J OuterbridgeSubstitutes not used: N Simons, A Smith, D Astwood, Q Outerbridge, K Hollis, O Allen, D SimmonsGoals: J Outerbridge, 20, I Coke, 80Referee: A FrancisMan of the Match: S Hollis (Parish)BAA 1 (8)Dandy Town 1 (7)BAA Wanderers won the first title up for grabs at the National Sports Centre on New Year’s Day, beating a more experienced Dandy Town 8-7 on penalties in the Player Development League Cup final.Town took the lead through Caldre Burgess in the 17th minute, but Vance Hill levelled for BAA minutes later. With neither side grabbing a winner before the final whistle, penalties would decide the match. It would be Maurice Lowe’s men who would lift the PDL trophy, winning 8-7 on penalties with Trey Durham netting the winning spot kick.BAA: K Bean, Z Robinson, J Simmons, J Bather, J Trott, T Durham, W Clemens, V Hill, F Pacheco, Q Lema, N GibbonsSubstitutes not used: T Williams, S Simmons, D Armstrong, L Roberts, A Bell, K Perinchief,Dandy Town: D Johnson, S Campbell, T Daniels, S Darrell, T Manders, T Caines, D Butterfield, A Simmons, C Burgess, G Dyer, D MingSubstitutes not used: K Tucker, D Frost, E Simmons, S Brown, H Smith, L Tucker, R Butterfield, K Darrell
