Village frustrated by spirited Hood
Robin Hood 1North Village 1North Village’s hopes of defending their Premier Division title suffered a major setback after being held to a draw by a spirited Robin Hood side at BAA Field on Saturday night.Although the Rams dominated large swathes of the possession they continually struggled to break down a bellicose Hood defence, which was superbly marshalled by Joel Duffy.Village desperately needed a win to keep alive their chances of a chasing down league leaders Dandy Town, and took the lead on the 36th minute when Kaiwon Dill fired home from just inside the box.The visitors had further chances to extend their advantage but were pegged back when substitute Marcelos Thomas levelled for Hood with a smart finish from close range.Village poured forward in search for the winner but a mixture of poor finishing, solid goalkeeping and resolute defending saw them having to settle for a share of the spoils.Hood coach Andrew Bascome believed his side were well worth a point and praised their character and hard work.“We knew it was going to be tough tonight because Village are a good team,” he said.“I had to make an change early on because Lashun Dill, the Village winger, was causing a few problems with our pace.“I played two holding midfielders with an attacking diamond in front which helped is stay compact.“Tonight’s result just shows what yoi can achieve through dedication, hard work and character.”Village are now seven points behind Hornets.Robin Hood: J Simmons, J Duffy, J Crockwell, A Robinson, B Robinson (A Wolfe, 35), T Terceira, D Outerbridge, D Bascome, T Lovitz, P Rahni (M Thomas, 57) D AlbouySubstitutes not used: C Watson, T FigureidoGoal: M Thomas, 67North Village: J Williams, T Burgess, V Tankard, K Dill, D Tankard, K Dill J Davis, S DeGraff, J Boyles (P Smith 65), L Dill (T Watson, 80), R BeanSubstitutes not used: J JenningsGoals: K Dill, 36Referee: A FrancisMan-of-the-match: J Duffy (Hood)
