Rams ready for Clyde Best Tourney experience
North Village Under-16 coach Cal Dill is honoured to have his side competing in the Clyde Best Invitational Festival that kicks off tomorrow at the National Sports Centre. The festival, which was cancelled last year due to financial and organisational problems, will only have two overseas clubs travelling to local shores with the rest being made up of local sides.Dill, whose Under-16s won the Knockout Cup, stressed the importance of his players gaining exposure rather than winning the tournament.“I’m privileged to be involved in this competition, I know Clyde and the accolades he has achieved, not only for himself, but also for the country of Bermuda so it is great to be playing in a tournament of this magnitude,” said Dill.“We had a good season, won the Knockout Cup and they are a good bunch of children and I just hope they go up there and give a good show for the crowd.”Dill believes the tournament presents an opportunity for his young troops to test their mettle against quality foreign opposition after an encouraging season. Village finished in the top four of the league, while also claiming a piece of silverware.“Overall our season was pretty good, we won a cup and was in the top four in the league so our season was a good one.“It is a competition but not a tournament and we aren’t looking to win a trophy or anything, but we want to have the guys to be exposed to a few things and play some good football.“When you are at that age there are other activities that come into play and they listened to what myself and Kaiwon Dill was teaching them and winning the cup gave us this opportunity to play in this competition.”Village open their schedule against Princeton SC of New Jersey tomorrow. The other overseas team competing is Virginia FC.The local sides competing are PHC Zebras Under-14s and Under-16s, North Village Under-16s, Richmond Harriers Under-14s, Dandy Town Under-14s, a Bermuda select women’s team and the senior women’s national side.
