Former players turn out in force for Dickinson fundraiser
Former English pros Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne also kitted up for the fundraiser.“It was a fun-filled Family Day attended by hundreds of spectators from all over the Island,” said North Village president Shervin Dill.Each player donated $20 towards the cause with match officials Stuart Crockwell and Leroy Wilson volunteering their services and also making donations.“Donations are still coming in and a reception is planned to present the donations raised to Stevie Dickinson at a date to be announced,” Dill added.“The organising committee (Ray Jones, Jimmy Tweed, Neil Paynter, Allen Smith, Andrew Griffith, Wendell Dill and Shervin Dill) would like to thank everyone that participated and assisted in making this event a very successful fun filled occasion.”The day’s opening contest saw North Village and Devonshire Colts play to a scoreless draw. Village then drew 1-1 with St George’s Colts in the second match after Rams’ Shaun Goater and St George’s’ Cal Raynor traded goals.The day’s final match between Devonshire Colts and St. George’s Colts also ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Dickinson fittingly scoring the last goal of the game.Prior to Dickinson’s late heroics Devonshire led through an Anthony Darrell own goal.
