Bermuda Hogges 1 Brooklyn Knights 1Ten man Bermuda Hogges battled to a deserved point against Brooklyn Knights to preserve their unbeaten start to the season at BAA Field yesterday.Hogges, who drew with New Jersey Rangers on Friday night, were reduced to ten men when defender Tyrell Burgess was harshly sent off just before half-time for a pull on Keith Jecewiz.Despite having a numerical disadvantage, Hogges were giving as good they got against Knights who had won their opening two games of the PDL campaign, including a 4-1 thrashing of Rangers.Absorbing Knights’ pressure before springing forward, Hogges took the lead on 68 minutes when Angelo Simmons converted a penalty after substitute striker Domico Coddington had been hauled down in the box by Bryant Knibbs.Moments later Knights also found themselves a man down when Kyle McTurk was stupidly sent off for two successive counts of dissent towards referee Iyo Obisesan and his assistant Martin Wyer.Hogges then had a great opportunity to twist the knife into a Knight’s side who seemed there for the taking when Troy Tucker found himself clean through on goal. The midfield schemer, however, failed to find the finish his impressive performance deserved, firing straight at Knights goalkeeper Stefan Monz who had raced off his line to narrow the goal and was able to block the shot.Strangely enough, the visitors improved after McTurk’s red card, forcing Hogges to retreat deep inside their own half and won a penalty themselves six minutes from time when Roger Lee was adjudged to have handled in the area.It was a tough decision against the Hogges defender who had thrown himself to the ground when closing down a shot from Knights substitute Raphael Abrey with the ball striking him somewhere in the chest region.Knights skipper Stefan Dimitrov kept his cool to score from the spot, sending Hogges keeper Tahj Bell the wrong way to earn his side a share of the spoils.Worryingly for Hogges, their stand-in skipper Antwan Russell joined John Barry Nusum on the treatment table after limping off the pitch early on with a suspected ankle ligament injury.Nusum was unable to complete Friday night’s game due to a knee injury but will be hoping to be fit for this weekend’s game against New Jersey Express at BAA Field.Hogges coach Maurice Lowe hailed his team’s workaholic display and believed Hogges were becoming a tough team to beat.“We’ve played our first two games and we’re still undefeated,” he said Lowe. “Ideally we would have liked six or four points but I still think this is a good start for us.“I was pleased with our tactical discipline and we added a bunch of hard work to our display today. We’re showing that the Hogges have arrived in this league and we’re becoming a difficult side to beat.”Lowe reckoned his team had been hard done by the referee’s decisions to send Burgess off and to award Knights a penalty for handball by Lee.“The penalty and the red card for Tyrell were harsh. These guys are really working their socks off and you can how emotionally charged they are now after the game. It’s disappointing for the players when things like that don’t go their way, especially when they have worked so hard.”Bermuda Hogges: T Bell, D Andrade, J Bather, R Lee, T Burgess, J Swan, T Tucker, A Simmons, D Ming, A Russell (D Coddington, 10), J Dickinson (R DeShields, 43)Substitutes not used: D Johnson, S Darrell, C Robinson, BascomeGoals: Simmons, 68Yellow cards: LeeSent off: Burgess, 42Brooklyn Knights: S Monz, K McTurk, R Marquetty, L Fedler, Z Gosse, B Knibbs, K Schlesinger, J Batista, G Davis, K Jecewiz, S DimitrovSubstitutes not used: K RumphGoals: Dimitrov, 84Yellow cards: Knibbs, DimitrovSent off: McTurk, 75Referee: A ObisesanMan of the match: T Tucker (Hogges)
