Teenager Chapman makes his mark at Wimbledon Academy
Professional football hopeful Judah Chapman has made steady progress since signing with AFC Wimbledon Youth Academy.Academy coach Oliver Ford says the Bermudian footballer has come on in leaps and bounds since inking a two-year deal with the English League Two club last March.“Judah has had a very promising start to his career with AFC Wimbledon,” said Ford. “Judah displays a multitude of characteristics that are all needed in his development as a professional football player.“From the moment he was signed I have seen a constant improvement in Judah’s game. Much of this is down to his exceptional attitude towards training.“He is hard-working, intelligent and diligent.“He is also very coachable and works hard at implementing what he has learned into matches.”Thirteen year-old Chapman moved to England four years ago to pursue a dream of playing professionally in the UK after being offered trials with Fullham’s Development Centre.Prior to joining the Dons, the promising attacking midfielder played for Elm Groove in the Sunday Surrey Youth League and also attended the Chelsea Elite Invitational Development Centre weekly.Chapman has high expectations of himself at Wimbledon.“I want to be one of the top players in the team, so I am just striving to be my best,” he said. “I want to take my game to the next level because I do have hopes of becoming a professional.“I am very excited to be at Wimbledon because this is a League Two club which is above anything I’ve done before, so it’s good for me to be there. The level of football that is played is higher than all of the teams I’ve played for before.”The ex-Elliott School student has already made his presence felt at the academy level having banged in eight goals so far, including a brace against Northampton Town. He also hit the back of the net against Southend United and Gillingham.”Ford reckons Chapman has the potential to go far in the sport if he’s willing to bend his back.“Judah has a lot of potential and if he maintains his high work rate I believe he will have a very exciting future in store for him,” he said.“Judah’s physical ability is a main strength of his. And what has been good to see is his eagerness to develop and improve the areas of his game that aren’t as strong.”
