Lambe and Hall face mighty Reds
Bermudian duo Freddy Hall and Reggie Lambe featured in Toronto FC’s 1-1 stalemate with 18-time English Premier League champions Liverpool at Rogers Centre in Toronto on Saturday.Toronto stunned their English rivals when they went ahead through a goal from new signing Quincy Amarikwa before Adam Morgan equalised for Liverpool to earn his team a share of the spoils in front of a crowd of 33,087.Goalkeeper Hall, who is currently on trial with Toronto FC, and winger Lambe both started the match before eventually being replaced.Toronto took an unexpected lead in the 58th minute when former Colorado Rapids striker Amarikwa slammed home a rebound after team-mate Sergio Camargo forced Reds’ ‘keeper Peter Gulacsi into a sprawling save.But the joy was short-lived as Liverpool came storming back and equalised in the 69th minute when Morgan crashed the ball into an empty net after Toronto’s defence was ruthlessly exposed by the wizardry of team-mate Raheem Sterling.Both teams made a raft of changes during the match with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers fielding an entirely new squad in the second half and counterpart Paul Mariner making ten changes at the break.Liverpool were without star players Steven Gerrard, Andy Carroll and Glen Johnson for the World Football Challenge match.The Reds’ preseason tour of North America continues on Wednesday when they face Italy’s AS Roma at Boston’s Fenway Park before taking on English rivals Tottenham in Baltimore this Saturday.Bermudian striker Jonte Smith was an unused sub during Crawley Town’s 1-0 pre-season win against Championship side Peterborough at Broadfield at the weekend.The Red Devils prevailed with a 14th minute strike from Gary Alexander.Smith, 18, opened his scoring account for Crawley Town’s first team the previous weekend in a 3-2 win against Conference side Bromley FC at Hayes Lane.Last week saw the Red Devils lose the services of manager Sean O’Driscoll who left the club to take over as manager of past UEFA Champions League winners Nottingham Forrest.Director of football and former Manchester United and England winger Steve Coppell and head coach Craig Brewster will manage Crawley Town’s first team until the club finds a replacement for O’Driscoll.Nahki Wells was on target in Bradford City’s 7-1 thumping of non-league Tadcaster Albion at the weekend.
