Champions Dandy Town busy in the transfer market

While Robin Hood have taken pre-season headlines in the transfer market, Dandy Town are doing some recruiting of their own this off-season as they bring a wealth of talent into the club as they look to retain their Digicel Premier Division title this. season. In 2010 Town brought in defenders Joseph Butterfield from Devonshire Colts, Kamen Tucker from Southampton Rangers, and Fabian Frankson from PHC to bolster their defensive ranks, and will now add more steel and attacking prowess to their ranks. Already confirmed to be wearing the brown and gold of the St John’s Road club is PHC’s Aquino Grant and Boulevard’s Ajani Gibbons, while the likes Temiko Wilson and others around the island look set to be putting pen to paper on deals.Grant, who was part of a deadly foursome last year at Zebras, will leave his boyhood club for a chance to prove himself elsewhere after sitting down and mulling over his potential destinations. While acknowledging the thought process behind his move, he was adamant that there are no ill feelings towards PHC in any way as he moves to another pasture to graze.“I was thinking about what I would do in terms of me playing for a team this year and I had gotten a call from Town and put some thought into moving to them and in the end I figured I could help them for a season or two,” said Grant.“I don’t have any hard feelings towards PHC, they are my boyhood club, but I felt I could go somewhere else and apply my trade somewhere different.“PHC will always be in my heart, I was brought up through the ranks, and I have won many things with the club, but I don’t want the fans of the club to be upset about me moving because the club is in good hands.”Grant will line up against former teammate and close friend Antwan Russell this year, who is yet to decide his fate for the upcoming season. Zebras skipper Russell is alleged to be heading to city side Robin Hood, although PHC have yet to release the potent striker. For the winger Grant, it sets up an intriguing scenario when the pair lock horns in the season.“Lining up against Twan will be awkward next year, regardless of what he does, we grew up together and have played together for the better part of our lives, so to go out and line-up against him will be a different experience,” he said.“In the end it is just a sport and we will both be interested to see how we get along against each other given we have done so much damage together as a tandem.”lBermuda are set face off against Haiti tonight in Puerto Rico in World Cup Qualifying action. Tonight’s game will be followed up with matches against hosts Puerto Rico and Barbados on Friday and Sunday respectively.Bermuda team: Robert Rawlings, Daniel Andrade, Marco Warren, Demetre Daniels, Rico Wells, Dante Albuoy, Shannon Burchall, Quadir Maynard, Wendell Ming, Jordon Darrell, Kashi Jones, Chikosi Basden, Jair Minors, Zeiko Lewis, Dale Eve, Okera Bascome, Lejuan Simmons, Shaquille Trott, Rakeem Deshields.
