Peppers teams perform well in Ohio tournament
Young Hamilton Parish footballers acquitted themselves well when they competed in the AC Milan intermediate youth soccer tournament in Cleveland, Ohio, with one of the three teams reaching the final of their division.In the AC Milan Continental Cup, Hamilton Parish Hot Peppers reached the under-12s final after posting a string of impressive results. In the group stage they won two games, beating Masters Futbol Academy II 7-1, and Cleveland Soccer Academy 5-2, but were defeated AC Milan Detroit Milan 4-2.Having finished second in their group, the Hot Peppers met Etobicoke Youth in the quarter finals and comprehensively beat them 5-1 to reach the semi finals where they faced the only team to have beaten them, AC Milan Detroit Milan. This time the result was different, with Hamilton Parish coming out on top 3-1.In the final, the Hot Peppers met Canadian side Brampton East FC. The Canadians had proven to be a revelation in the play-off stages, sweeping aside their opponents without conceding a goal. Hamilton Parish made things harder for them, but just lost out 3-2.Hamilton Parish under-9s were unbeatable in the group stage, winning two games and drawing one. The Hot Peppers beat Internationals West 6-4 and AC Premier 6-4, drawing with Eastside Kickers 5-5. In the quarter finals, the Hot Peppers continued to impress as they beat Cleveland United 6-3.But heartbreak came in the semi final where they drew 5-5 with their opponents before losing a penalty shoot-out 3-2. A video of the penalty kicks later appeared to show a counting error which could have given the Hot Peppers a route to the final, but it was not to be.The Hamilton Parish under-11s played well, winning two games and losing two during the group section, where they finished third. The Hot Peppers’ wins came against Cleveland Soccer Academy (7-1) and Canton United (4-0).The Bermuda youngsters were given the honour of leading the way into the Cleveland Browns Stadium for the opening ceremony of the youth football tournament.Hamilton Parish Youth Soccer Programme coach Philip Burgess congratulated coaches Nigel Burgess and Dwight Jackson, and said he was pleased overall with how all the HPWC players had performed and wanted to thank sponsors and those in the local community who had helped in various ways to make the trip to Cleveland possible.
