Parsons named on first all-female CFU committee

BFA executive Shequita Parson has been appointed to the CFU Women's Football Committee

Former track star Shequita Parson has been appointed to the first all-female Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Football Committee.The daughter of former Devonshire Lion’s striker Eugene (Sparks) Gilbert, will serve on the 11 member committee, headed by chairperson Mrs Sonia Bien-Aime of the Turks & Caicos Islands, for a four-year period.The goal of the Committee will be to advise the Executive Committee of the Union by undertaking financial planning and oversight responsibilities by monitoring, reviewing and providing advisory functions in the areas of budget and finances. The Committee will exchange views on current women’s football topics, in particular, the CFU women’s competitions and the CFU Women’s Calendar, including coordination with CONCACAF and FIFA competitions. The Committee will also draft recommendations regarding possible modifications to the existing competitions and the regulations governing these competitions, as well as on the implementation of development programmes for women’s football.It will also assist in the process of selecting the host association(s) for the final round of the CFU Women’s Under-17 Championship, CFU Women’s Under-19 Championship and any other women’s competitions that the CFU may create and conduct a cost-benefit analysis and report to the CFU ExCo on the establishment of CFU Senior Women’s Competitions.The Committee will assist with the programme content for women’s football conferences and courses, monitor the CFU Women’s tournaments that serve as qualification tournaments for CONCACAF and FIFA tournaments as well as assisting in defining the draw principles and monitor the preparation and conducting of draws, make recommendations on the CFU calendar, including proposals for the coordination of CONCACAF and FIFA national teams competitions and help in drawing up and implementing girls’ and women’s football development strategies and programmes.The Committee has the Jurisdiction to make any recommendations with respect to the development of referees within the Caribbean region, and source an annual budget which will be presented to the CFU Executive committee for approval.Commenting on Parson’s appointment to the CFU Women’s Football Committee, Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president Larry Mussenden said: “The BFA and Bermuda can be proud that Shequita has been appointed to the CFU Committee as it continues to show that Bermuda football officials are respected for our professionalism and administration of the game. It also demonstrates that our BFA officials represent football at the CFU, CONCACAF and FIFA levels.”Mussenden added: “Shequita is a long standing elected Executive Member of the BFA. She has represented Bermuda at international meetings of football and FIFA Congresses over the many years including in Zurich and South Africa. Additionally, she has acted as Head of Delegation for several Bermuda National teams as they competed in regional tournaments throughout the Caribbean.“Shequita is the chairman of the BFA Security Committee and she works with all our Affiliates in addressing security issues at football matches. Shequita is also a BFA Match Commissioner and can be seen on duty at local football matches throughout the island every week during football season. Shequita will soon be attending a CONCACAF Match Commissioner’s course in Miami.”TN Tatem School teacher Parson, who holds a master’s bachelor's degree in business management, represented Bermuda in track and field at the junior Caribbean and Central American Games (CAC) and East Coast Invitational.She attended Bennett College in North Carolina on a track and field scholarship.
