Wells ecstatic as City draw Arsenal in Cup quarters
Nahki Wells admits he was “buzzing” after Bradford City were drawn at home against Premier League giants Arsenal in a money-spinning Capital One quarter-final tie.The match scheduled for Tuesday, December 11 will be televised live, and, after four uninspiring cup draws, it’s the big-money clash the Bantams had been hoped for.“Arsenal @ Home . . . Buzzing,” said Wells in a recent Twitter post. “How am I meant to go to sleep after that draw!!”City pulled off a stunning penalty shoot-out victory over Premier League Wigan Athletic at the JB Stadium on Tuesday night to reach the last eight of the League Cup for the first time since 1989.Wells was substituted in the 65th minute and replaced by Alan Connell but played his part in the famous win.Bradford coach Phil Parkinson had been clamouring for a lucrative tie to boost his promotion budget and was delighted to see Arsenal’s name pop up in Wednesday’s draw.“I’m absolutely ecstatic. We’ve always said our time will come and we would get that massive cup tie and it’s finally happened,” he told the Bradford Telegraph & Argus.“To see the words Bradford City v Arsenal going across the TV screen was fantastic. It’s great for the club, great for the two chairmen and great for all the supporters.“Money-wise, getting an away tie to one of the big teams would have earned us maybe a bit more. But equally, Arsenal at home with 20,000 of our fans there will be something special — and I’m positive it’s going to be on TV.”With holders Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham all going out, Parkinson feared that City would once again miss the boat when it came to drawing one of the top-flight big boys.“As the games were getting played and Norwich and Swansea were winning, the odds were lengthening on us being given a lucrative draw. But it’s as good as you are going to get in terms of playing at home to one of the Premiership’s biggest clubs.”Bradford visit Northampton Town in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow.
