Defending champs Town tumble out as Bean snatches late winner

Dandy Town 0 North Village 1 (AET)A new Dudley Eve champion will be crowned this season.Dandy Town’s reign as Dudley Eve champions came to a screeching halt at Lords yesterday as Keishen Bean’s late extra-time winner sent the cup holders crashing out of the competition.Bean beat Hornets’ ‘keeper Daniel Johnson with a low drive inside the near post two minutes from the end of extra time to earn his team an unlikely win in a match they were forced to play second fiddle for long spells.Rams’ stunning win also avenged last season’s Dudley Eve final defeat to Town.Hornets dominated the majority of the match and created ample chances to blow Rams clean off the pitch. But in the end the cup holders were taught a cruel yet fundamental lesson; possession and chances counts for nothing if you can’t put the ball in the net.“When you don’t put your chances away it comes back to haunt you,” Hornets coach Jomar Wilkinson said.“I don’t think the better team won. But Village came with a game plan, stuck to it and at the end of the day they came away with the victory.”Rams coach Shaun Goater said: “Town had their chances but it came down to us putting ours away to take the victory.“The guys worked hard and it was a good team performance that allowed us to get into the final.”As well as Bean, Rams also had Dwayne (Streaker) Adams to thank as the veteran ‘keeper made a few timely saves to keep his team in the match.Hornets were by far the better team during the opening stanza which saw Rams pinned down in their own half for long spells. The cup holders used the width of the pitch to create gaping holes in the Rams defence but were unable to capitalise when scoring seemed easier.Hornets best chances of the half arrived when Daeshun Butterfield rattled the woodwork from close range and Angelo Simmons’ goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Rams defender Jason Davis. At the other end Johnson dived to his left to save Keishen Bean’s well-directed header during a rare Rams attack. The game continued to flow in the same vein after the break with Hornets looking the most likely to break the deadlock.Brandon Minors poked the ball wide from yards out while Adams raced off his line to save at the feet of Fabian Frankson who hesitated too long to pull the trigger.Raymond Beach also went close just minutes after coming on as a sub, the burly striker’s header grazing the bar with Adams grasping at thin air. After absorbing enormous pressure Rams found another gear in the final 20 minutes of regulation time and forced Hornets on the back foot. But like their opponents, poor finishing let Rams down.Keishen Bean sliced wide with only Johnson to contend with while Ralph Bean Jr also squandered a golden opportunity from close range deep in stoppage time.Rams continued to hold a slight edge in extra time and they eventually made it count when Bean slotted in Jemeiko Jennings’ diagonal pass on a counter attack after Hornets were dispossessed just inside their own half.Dandy Town: D Johnson, A Lowe, D Ming, S Tuzo (A Rocker, 85 mins), F Frankson, A Gibbons, A Simmons, S Darrell, B Minors (R Beach, 59 mins), D Butterfield (L Simmons, 96 mins), K TuckerSubs not used: J Stowe, T Wilson, T Webb, D ChambersBooked: D Ming, A Gibbons, D ButterfieldNorth Village: D Adams, K Bean, R Bean, J Jennings, J Davis, K Dill, T Jennings (C Boyce, 63 mins), P Smith (M Swan, 63 mins), K Talbot, P Castle, L Dill (S DeGraff, 86 mins)Subs not used: Z Henderson, K Knights, S MingBooked: J JenningsGoals: K Bean, 118 minsMan of the match: D Adams (Village)Referee: E Holmes
