PHC 0 Somerset 2Somerset Trojans claimed three precious points on the road after taking full advantage of a lethargic PHC Zebras at Southampton Oval yesterday.Goals either side of the half from midfielder Sean Brangman and striker Dion Stovell earned Trojans their first league win since October 14 and lifted them from eighth to seventh in the Premier standings.Zebras, who suffered a second league loss of the season, remain in third level on points with fourth-placed Flanagan’s Onions.The visitors were clearly more organised and hungrier than their hosts and thoroughly deserved to come away from a scrappy match with nothing shy of maximum points.In truth, Trojans could’ve easily won by a wider margin had they put away more chances that came their way.The newly crowned Dudley Eve champs took the match to their hosts from the kick-off and threatened as early as the sixth minute when goalkeeper turned striker Adrian Burrows flashed a header just wide of the uprights.Stovell also went close when he squirted a gilt edged chance wide after getting behind a static Zebras defence.The diminutive Trojans striker then had another effort from close range saved by Zebras ‘keeper Troy Hall.Though few and far apart, Zebras created chances at the opposite end with midfielder Lonnie Bascome just failing to connect with Cecoy Robinson’s searching cross in the box. Robinson also threatened to break the ice when he sent a fierce right footed blast fizzing past the post.Zebras were caught off guard during a sweeping raid down the left flank. But fortunately for the home side Adolphus Lambert’s drifting cross rolled across the face off goal untouched.However, there was no denying Trojans in the 34th minute when Brangman rose high above the Zebras defence and planted Lambert’s cross inside Hall’s far post to give his team a 1-0 cushion at the half.Zebras played with more width and purpose when play resumed but continued to struggle in the last third of the pitch against a Trojans defence well marshalled by captain Trevin Ming.Stovell, who has scored a goal in each of his team’s last three outings, extended Trojans lead in the 49th minute when he capitalised on some slack defending.
